Lake Billy Chinook is the confluence of 3 of Oregon’s terrific rivers: the Metolius, Deschutes, and Crooked River. Just a 45 minute drive north of Bend, OR near the town of Culver. With 72 miles of cliffed coastline, Lake Billy Chinook is the ideal background for houseboating and any other water activities your heart desires.
Check out with your houseboat amongst the volcanic basalt cliffs that tower 500 feet above the water. The water is deep and crystal blue, ideal for kayaking, paddling, waterskiing, or leaping off the houseboat.
We lease houseboats from 2 marinas:
Billy Chinook Marina is on the northwestern end of the lake, and provides open coastline. It joins the Warm Springs Indian Appointment where you can see rock developments like Balancing Rock.
Cove Palisades Marina is on the southern end of the lake, and provides an entirely various view. Billy Chinook Falls is simply 2 miles south of the marina. Or for some wildlife watching, take your houseboat to the end of the Metolius arm for a peek at some wild horses running along the beach, or keep your eyes peeled to the treetops, you might spy an eagle’s nest.
Fishing is extraordinary. Understood for record Bull Trout (the 3 biggest in Oregon were captured here). Other popular types are the Kokanee Salmon, Smallmouth Bass, German Browns, along with Bull and Rainbow Trout. There is the periodic Atlantic Salmon or Catfish. Crawdads/Crayfish can be captured in the Misaligned and Deschutes Rivers.
If you’re up for some hiking, do not miss out on the Tam-a-lau Path. It’s a moderate walking with a 600 feet elevation gain, a 6 mile loop trek from the Deschute Camping Area in the Cove Palisades State Park. Make sure to take a look at the Crooked River Petroglyph, a historical website worth a check out: an 10 heap, 2000 years of age basalt stone near the northern suggestion of the island. The path is a mile long reach the top of a lava plateau called the Peninsula, which separates the Deschutes and Crooked Rivers.
